Tuesday, 11:04 am

Last night the doctors reported to us that they CANNOT operate/remove the tumor. It is too high up in the biliary ducts to safely remove. We just spoke to Dr. Martine Estermann, our Oncologist in the Moffitt Cancer Center. Still waiting for the biopsy results from Friday, should be in the next few days. We are currently getting our hands on quite a few copies of his records, so that we can contact other locations (Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, etc) for second opinions. "FULL COURT PRESS". We asked Dr. Estermann alot of questions for other types of therapies and options. Once they have the full biopsy report, they can be answered. Silver lining: his bile levels are dropping steadily, infection is clearing up, and he's finally back in his private room with a window. Most likely, he'll be discharged by the end of the week.

Linda and I have been reading the blog daily and thinking and praying for all of you. We are troubled with the news. But we have also been researching behind the scenes. The Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is a great place to start.

In talking with Gary Lane this afternoon he related an article published in the NY Times today which described a new procedure being performed at Columbia University Medical Center by Dr. T. Kato. Please read the article which is attached below with the link to the NY Times.

There are always options, there is always hope. We will continue our daily thoughts and prayers. We will be arriving in Sarasota on the 30th for 2 weeks. We will figure out a way to be with you. All our love - Jerry and Linda

  4. We continue to pray for you and your family.
Jim, remember that the doctors in Florida would not operate on Jeff's heart. They wanted him to have the best because of the difficulty of the surgery. We were able to choose Cleveland Clinic or Mayo. We chose Cleveland because his son lives in Brecksville. Great hospital.
Good luck in doing your research.
    Keep us posted.
Let us know if you need anything!

  6. Jim & Deb,
Yes, there is always hope and options....second opinions and Mayo clinic all good..I read online today about Mayo Clinic for other options that sounded good...Many people walking around are survivors of what doctors considered hopeless so keep that faith in God he will give you the wisdom you need to find the answers you need...
Glad to hear that Jim will be heading home and out of the hospital...Were praying like crazy up here for you guys...
    Love ya,
    Linda & Keith

  7. Jim and Debbie (and the boys) -- As I read yesterday's posting and saw that your doctor said "no" to the operation, I had a typical salesman's repsonse -- "The sale begins when the prospect says no". I wonder if the medical profession understands the tenacity of the career salesman? I don't think so, otherwise they would just say yes right from the getgo!

Barbara and I continue to hold you in our prayers. I think of you first thing every morning and you are one of my last thoughts every night as I drift off to sleep. I pray for wisdom for you as you make decisions over the days/weeks ahead. I pray that you and your many friends and loved ones uncover just the right medical journal news article or medical introduction. I pray that GOD will grant you undestanding of the various complexities you face in your research and that He gives you perfect peace about your final decision. We love you and will follow your journey closely.

Hope to see you soon. Blessings, Rudi (and Barbara)
